Brief History
At the establishment of the University of Bucharest in 1864, by decree of the ruler Al. I. Cuza, a Faculty of Sciences was established within it, with a Mathematics section. In 1949, the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics broke up with mathematics and physics departments. In 1962, the mathematics department broke away and the Faculty of Mathematics was founded. Since 2002, it has been called the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics.
General Information
Our faculty is the best of the most profile in the country, being classified in category A in the two main fields of study, Mathematics and Informatics. Our graduates have no problem finding jobs (some work since their studies) in computer science, industry, applied research, banking and insurance, education of all grades; those who wish can continue their studies in doctoral schools in the country or abroad, where they are easily accepted.

Curricular offer
We train students in two fields of 3-year bachelor's degree, a 4-year bachelor's field and several master and doctoral majors.
Mathematics
Bachelor's degree specializations (starting in the second year of study):
- Mathematics
- Mathematics-Informatics
- Applied Mathematics
For graduates of the Mathematics-Informatics specialization, there is also the possibility of continuing their studies, for another year, in order to obtain a bachelor's degree in computer science.
Master's specializations respect the traditional fields of pure and applied mathematics: Algebra, Mathematical Analysis, Geometry, Cryptography and Code Theory, Applied Mathematics in Finance, Actuarial and Biostatistics, Mathematical Modeling in Nature Sciences and Materials Science. The interdisciplinary Master of Biostatistics (with tax) is located at the intersection of the fields of Mathematics, Informatics and Pharmacy.
Informatics
It has a unique specialization – Informatics – which includes mathematics support courses, fundamental computer courses: data structures and algorithms, programming languages (C, C++, Java, C#, non-procedural languages), databases (SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle), web application development (HTML, CSS, Java Script, XML, JSP, ASP.NET), network management (Unix, Windows) and a rich activity of making individual or team projects.
Master's specializations are oriented on six directions of scientific and professional development: Algorithms and bioinformatics, Web Databases and Technologies, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Declarative Programming and Distributed Systems.
Computers and Information Technology
It has a unique specialization – Information Technology – lasting 4 years. The study program integrates fundamental and specialized courses in mathematics, computer science and physics. The package of courses follows.res the formation of practical and competent skills to work with complex technological equipment through laboratory work and specialized practice (in the fourth year).
Distance learning
We organize bachelor's studies in Computer Science and Master's degree in Web Databases and Technologies.
Perspectives
Master's is a necessary condition for working in high school and higher education or research.
Material basis
We have a computerized library, a subsidiary of the Central University Library.
The Faculty has 20 computing laboratories, equipped with high-performance computers and mechanical, numerical and statistical analysis laboratories. The 4 amphitheatres and two classrooms have multimedia facilities.
Students can benefit from social scholarships, study, merit and performance. The faculty can provide accommodation in the university dormitories for half of the students in the province.
During their studies, students can benefit from Erasmus scholarships in universities in Italy, France, Germany, Sweden, etc.
